Galaxy Fold8 Wide Aspect Ratio: iPad’s and Galaxy Tab’s in One

At the bottom of this post, a one-minute video explains it in an easy-to-follow way, with illustrations and side-by-side comparisons. Watch the video ▶

For the Galaxy Fold8 Wide aspect ratio, the two screens each borrowed a tablet ratio, one from Apple and one from Samsung. Open, it is the iPad. Folded, it is the Galaxy Tab. What does that mean?

Open, the Galaxy Fold8 Wide aspect ratio is 4:3, the ratio the iPad has kept for years. Folded, turn the 10:16 cover screen on its side and you get the 16:10 of the Galaxy Tab line.

Samsung explains it this way. Open, the 4:3 main screen cuts down unused space in video and gaming, so it is more immersive. Stand it upright and the ratio is close to 3:4, which Samsung intended for long reading, such as articles and e-books.

Folded, the 10:16 cover screen suits short, repeated tasks like messaging, social media, and short-form video. That ratio is almost the same as the 9:16 of short-form video, so a vertical video fills almost the whole screen.

Personally, I see it as two tablet ratios folded into one phone. You open it for long-form video, and you watch short-form video without opening it. For more on the Galaxy Fold8 Wide, watch the full videos.
