Step up the Galaxy Fold8 Wide storage one tier, and it costs $200 more. Step up the next tier, and it costs $400 more. It is the same single step each time, so why does the price gap double?
The Galaxy Fold8 Wide storage lineup has three configurations, and these are US launch prices. The base model has 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Going up to 512GB costs $200 more.

But the 1TB configuration costs $400 more than the 512GB step below it.
There is a reason the steps cost such different amounts. On the 1TB model, the RAM also goes up, from 12GB to 16GB. So that $400 is not the price of storage alone.
Personally, even if you upgrade the storage, I think stopping at 512GB is the sensible choice. Unless you shoot a lot of video and keep piling it up on the phone, or you use the on-device AI features heavily.
For reference, the Wide has no microSD slot. In other words, you cannot add storage after you buy it. For more on the Galaxy Fold8 Wide, watch the full videos.
