Galaxy Z Flip8 vs Fold8: What 4 New Features Did the Flip Miss?

At the bottom of this post, a two-minute video explains it in an easy-to-follow way, with illustrations and side-by-side comparisons. Watch the video ▶

Galaxy Z Flip8 vs Fold8: four features went into the Fold8 Ultra and the Fold8 Wide, announced on the same day, but were left out of the Flip8.

In short, the Galaxy Z Flip8 vs Fold8 gap comes down to this: this generation’s new technology went almost entirely to the two Fold models.

One, the anti-reflective coating. The two Fold models have it on their inner screens, but neither the main screen nor the cover screen of the Flip gets it. Two, the cover glass grade. The Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 used on the Fold models is absent, and the Flip’s cover screen stays with the same Victus 2 as last year.

Three, wired charging. The two Fold models charge at 45W, while the Flip stays at 25W. Four, wireless charging. The Fold models moved up to 20W, while the Flip stays at 15W.

Still, did the Flip8’s screen at least get better? According to SamMobile, a site that covers Samsung news, the Flip8 uses the same OLED panel as the Flip7, with no brightness improvement either. It is not just the size and the refresh rate that match. It is the same panel.

Looked at another way, the Flip8 is the lowest-priced model in this generation’s Galaxy foldable lineup. Personally, I think leaving out the Fold’s new technology is what keeps that price lower. Rather than expecting high-end specs, see it as the lowest-priced way to get a folding phone. For more on the Galaxy Z Flip8, watch the full videos.
