Galaxy Z Flip8 Launch Price Up $100, Almost Nothing New: Why?

Almost nothing changed, and yet the Galaxy Z Flip8 launch price went up by $100. Why?

With 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, the US Galaxy Z Flip8 launch price is $100 more than the Flip7’s, a 9.1% increase. And yet the screens, the cameras, the battery capacity, and the charging specs are all the same as last year.

This is not a price increase for a better product. The reason is component costs. The business news channel CNBC reported that Samsung raised foldable prices because of rising memory chip prices. In the first half of 2026, memory prices jumped more than 300% in a single quarter, and manufacturers in general are raising handset prices.

The Flip8 comes in just two configurations, 256GB and 512GB, and the larger one costs $200 more. Unlike the Fold8 Ultra and the Fold8 Wide announced alongside it, there is no 16GB RAM or 1TB option.

Personally, unless you keep piling up video on the device itself, I think 256GB is enough. The $200 difference buys storage and nothing else. RAM is 12GB either way.

That said, when component costs spike the way they have, holding a lower price means giving something up. Seen that way, frozen specs are hard to read as a simple negative. For more on the Galaxy Z Flip8, watch the full videos.

💡 FAQ

Q1. Why did the Galaxy Z Flip8 price go up?

The reason isn’t a better product. It’s component costs. CNBC reported that Samsung raised foldable pricing because of rising memory chip prices. Memory jumped more than 300% in a single quarter during the first half of 2026, and manufacturers across the board are pushing handset prices up.

Q2. How far apart are the storage options?

The Flip8 comes in just two configurations, 256GB and 512GB, separated by $200. Unlike the higher-end foldables, there’s no 16GB RAM or 1TB option.

Q3. Should I pick the 512GB model?

Unless you’re stockpiling video on the device itself, stopping at 256GB makes sense. The $200 difference buys storage and nothing else, since RAM is 12GB either way.
